About Indian RTO and licensure tests
Driving licensing in India is governed by the Motor Vehicles Act, 1988 (and its 2019 amendments) and administered by Regional Transport Offices (RTOs) in each state. The Learner's Licence (LLR) test is the first step - required before you can apply for a permanent driving licence. Many states now offer the LLR test online via the Parivahan Sewa portal.
This catalog will expand to include common professional and licensure exams in India over time. The current LLR reviewer focuses on the nationally shared traffic-rule and road-sign content used by every state RTO.
Frequently asked
Can I take the LLR test from home?
In some states, yes - Parivahan Sewa allows fully online LLR testing for eligible candidates with Aadhaar-based identity verification. Other states still require an in-person RTO visit. Check sarathi.parivahan.gov.in for your state.
